Scientific Expedition on its way to Siberian Impact Site
17/10/02

According to a report by the Russian Information Agency Novosti, a scientific team are on their way to the site where witnesses recently reported the fall of a large meteorite. The fall was confirmed by reports of Earth tremours in Bodaibo, Balakhninski and other places located dozens of kilometers away from the site.

In addition to eye witness accounts, the United States Department of Defense published information confirming that an American satellite group registered the entry of a bright body into the Earth's atmosphere on 24 September, at an altitude of 62 kilometers.

A spokesman for the Astronomy Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences said, "We have no doubt that a large meteorite fell on September 24. It is clear that a piece of a meteorite unburnt in the Earth's atmosphere has fallen near Bodaibo."
