Is an asteroid going to hit the Earth in 2019?
Asteroid 2002 NT7 was discovered in July 2002 and initial predictions, based on the first observations, suggested it had a small chance of around 1 in 60,000 of colliding with Earth in 2019. Because the asteroid was quite large, at 4 km in diameter, it was the first to have a positive value on the Palermo Impact Scale.
Further observations, which have allowed the orbit of the asteroid to be determined much more accurately, have revealed that 2002 NT7 is not going to hit the Earth.
