How can an explosion in space divert an asteroid?
An explosion can be used to divert an asteroid even though space is a nearly complete vacuum. An explosion on the surface of an asteroid creates a crater and ejects rocks from the surface. It is the change in momentum caused by the ejection of rocks that moves the asteroid.
