Is asteroid 1950DA going to hit the Earth?

The orbit of asteroid 1950DA was refined by radar observations in March 2002 during its close approach allowing its orbit to be predicted well into the future. It has a chance of 1 in 300 of colliding with the Earth in 2880. The asteroid is 1.1 km in diameter and if it did impact with the Earth would cause large scale and perhaps even global damage. Whether this asteroid really is going to collide with us will need further work to be confirmed. If necessary, however, the orbit of this object could be changed to avert an impact.
